Tips for Running a Successful Home-Based Franchise

Working from home may sound like lot of fun, but once you start your home-based franchise, you will understand that the field has its drawbacks as well. Your kids may burst into the room playing pirates the moment you are about to close a deal or someone will hog the phones while you wait for an important phone call! Learn from the following practical tips on how to stay focused, socialize and manage your business from home.

Staying focused

• Before you launch your business, have a talk with your entire family members and make sure that you won’t be disturbed while working in your office area.
• Select a place in the house as your office and ensure that no one uses that part for personal work. Also, put up some signs to demarcate the area.
• Keep a separate phone line and computer for executing your office work.
• Just like your old office, try to be present in your home office at a certain time. That will make you feel more professional and motivate you to run your business smoothly.
• Always dress properly, may be not always in suits, but at least in semi-professional attire. If you dress casually or work in your workout clothes, the laid-back attitude may also translate to your work. Moreover, do you want your clients to see you in pajamas?
• Take occasional breaks. Stroll around, look after your kids, water the plants and then again sit with new enthusiasm. Have your lunch along with your family members and enjoy the benefits of working from home.
• Wrap up your work at a specific time.

Socializing

• The biggest thing you will miss while working from home is meeting other people and going out for work. In order to avoid that, arrange some meetings with your clients and contacts outside your home. Going out once in a while to meet people can give you a breath of fresh air.
• Make new friends online and catch up with them through instant messaging. May be you will find your old friends that way.
• Fix lunch dates with friends who also work from home or are stay-at-home parents.
• Try to keep the afternoon free if you can. Walk the dog, say “hi” to your neighbors and play with the children.
• Try to call people instead of writing an email. Even talking to people will give you a feel of socializing.

Building your business

• Be professional in whatever you do, even if you are carrying it out on a part-time basis. Try your level best to keep your work commitments.
• Answer your e-mails and phone calls within respectable time-frame.
• Make use of the Internet to advertise and build your business.
• Sponsor local events to let people know about your business.
• Become the part of local chamber of commerce.

All of these techniques can help you be successful when starting a franchise.
